Our Story
Inside a historic 1909 schoolhouse in Dorr, MI.
A schoolhouse reimagined
Built in 1909, the schoolhouse that now houses The District Coffee originally served the families of Dorr, MI. For generations, it was a place where students gathered to learn, connect, and grow.
More than a century later, the building’s purpose hasn’t really changed. It still brings people together, just in a different way.

Restoring something worth keeping
When owners Jesse and Tori first stepped inside the old schoolhouse, they knew it was something special. The character, the history, and the craftsmanship of the building deserved to be preserved.
Over time, they carefully restored the space, keeping the warmth and character of the original schoolhouse while giving it new life as a coffeehouse.

Coffee & Community
The District was built around a simple idea: people need places to gather.
Coffee brings people through the door, but it’s the conversations, friendships, and sense of belonging that make a place meaningful.
From morning coffee runs to afternoons spent catching up with neighbors, The District is a place where everyone is welcome, because people matter.
